Giving your home a new lease of life. Major renovations and extensions across the Byron Shire and Tweed Shire, planned and built by one local team.
- Licensed builder in NSW and QLD

Renovating a home you already love
If your home is due for an update or no longer meets your current lifestyle needs, Muskens Building Co. can help. We renovate and extend homes across the Byron Shire and Tweed Shire council areas, making them more functional and better suited to the way you live, within a scope and budget that suits you.
Most people we speak with don't want to move. They like the street, the block and the character of the house, and a good renovation keeps that while fixing what isn't working.

Why homeowners choose Muskens for their renovation
Open and honest from the start.
We stand by our commitments and are upfront about cost, timing and anything we find in your home. Our reputation is built on that approach.
Christo is involved from day one.
Christo walks your home and block at the first site visit and stays involved through to handover.
Costs worked through before you commit.
Design, scope and budget are worked through together, so you know where you stand before construction starts.
We know older Northern Rivers homes.
Timber homes, Queenslanders, flood levels, bushfire ratings and coastal exposure are part of everyday work for us.
Local suppliers and trades.
We prioritise local suppliers, materials and trades, which supports the community and keeps your project in experienced local hands.
Built to last.
We use sustainable building practices and choose materials suited to the local climate, so your renovation performs well for years.

The questions most people ask before renovating
1. What if you find problems once the walls come off?
Before discussing finishes, we check the structure, subfloor, roof, previous additions and services, along with flood levels, bushfire ratings, coastal exposure and sloping sites. We allow for likely unknowns in the plan and budget. If something does come up, we show you what we've found, what it means and the options before any extra work goes ahead.
2. Can we stay in the house during the renovation?
It depends on the scope. Some renovations can be staged so you live in part of the home, while bigger structural work usually means moving out for a period. We talk this through at the planning stage, so you can plan ahead for where you'll live and how long for.
3. Will the new work match the rest of the house?
Getting the join right between old and new is what separates a good renovation from an obvious add-on. We look at rooflines, ceiling heights, floor levels and existing materials early, so the finished home looks like it was always meant to be that way.
Is Muskens the right fit for your renovation?
We're likely a good fit if:
- You own a home in the Tweed or Byron Shires
- You're planning a major renovation or extension, not a quick cosmetic refresh
- You want the design, budget and build worked through together before you commit
- You'd like one local team managing the project from start to finish
You don't need finished plans before speaking with us. An idea and a list of what isn't working is a good place to start.
